你好 (Léih hóu!)

How's everyone? 😊 This will be a shorter email/update cos I don't have that much time to email today... and also, the A/C here in the library is soooo strong haha it's so cold! Haha lol.

Updates/Highlights from last week:

Oct 22 Monday

PDay'd with Sister Romero and Sister Almanzor. My companion also did her last "trunky" shopping in their area hehe... Then at night, we continued doing Less Active finding.

Pictures: P-day!

Oct 23 Tuesday

We had a discussion about Prayer during our district council today. Basically we talked about how we could improve our prayers and our communication with our Heavenly Father... Please read these talks if you have time (link enabled):

Oct 24 Wednesday

We tried to do Less Active finding at [another spot in our area] today but  no luck.  The guards were very strict... but, we were able to knock on one house and the lady who opened the door got mad at us 😟 We were just asking if this person named "......." is there but then she started to yell at us and even said that she'll call the police if we'll not leave... Waaa, what an experience! It's sooo hard to do Less Active finding here in Hong Kong!

Picture: Birthday package!

Oct 25 Thursday

Had Exchanges today...with Sister Low. It's nice to be in a new environment for awhile and see how they do missionary work... Also during my personal study, I was reading Alma's counsel to his sons and as we know, he only wrote 15 "powerful" verses to Shiblon (not as much as Helaman's and Corianton's), then I came across to this talk: "Truly Good and Without Guile" by Elder Ringwood.

Oct 26 Friday -

Happy Birthday, Kabs Precious!! 😊 ... We're supposed to have a turnover lesson today with the Mandarin Elders but she fonged us (didn't show up) haha. It was also awkward cos we invited a member to be present during the lesson but then she didn't show up. Awkwarrrrd...

Oct 27 Saturday

Had our Stake Conference today. The speakers mainly focused talking about the changes that will happen next year and how we could have "home-centered" and "church supported gospel learning"... Also [transfer] calls happened today! Guess what? I AM GOING TO KILL ANOTHER PERSON this coming transfer hahahaha. My new companion will be Sister Wilson (from Australia) and she's going home in December. She will be the 4th companion that I will kill lol. I think I'll stay in [my first area] foreverrr haha probably until January or February next year.

Pictures: Yum!

Oct 28 Sunday

Had our Sunday Stake Conference. We sang with the choir! 😊 It was a great day... Also we met with Sister "G." after and taught her about Temples and Family History and we're preparing her to go to the temple next month 😊 [She] is really doing great 😊 ... And finally today, we had the turnover lesson with the Mandarin Elders. She invited us to her house and chenged us 😊 The Mandarin Elders gave her a baptismal date (awesome!). Praying for her progress.

Pictures: Sunday Fun!

Have a great week everyone! Love y'all!

WEEK 26

你好 (Léih hóu!)

Thank you everyone for your birtday greetings and for your emails! And also for reading my weekly emails hehe.

Updates/Highlights from last week:

Oct 15 Monday

Had a fun PDay today! We went to the beach, relaxed, played games, and ate unlimited snacks with Filipino 姊妹 傳教士 (jímuih chyùhngaausih or sister missionaries) hehe. 😊 So after emailing, me and my companion...met the sisters [t]hen we rode a bus going to [the] beach. It's actually a pretty place and it kinda looks like Hawaii's Turtle Bay (but nothing can beat Hawaii's beach lol). There's also a bridge that...resembles Golden Gate bridge. So yeah, great PDay with the Filipino sisters. I'm glad that my companion loves Filipinos and she said I'm actually her "dream come true" (lol so cheesy haha) cos she's been praying to have a Filipina companion ever since but too sad that she's leaving/going home in 10 days. I will surely miss her... At night, we continued writing notes/cards for our Returning Members (less-active members) and did some calls... Great day 😊

Videos and photos: Pday fun with the Sister Missionaries!

Oct 16 Tuesday

Visited a less-active today named "A." (a Chinese-Filipino lady that lives nearby). She's been stressed recently with a lot of stuff that's going on in her life and so we were prompted to share Elder Andersen's talk last General Conference entitled "Wounded". In his talk, he said:

"We each understand that difficulties are part of life, but when they come to us personally, they can take our breath away. Without being alarmed, we need to be ready... Along with the bright colors of happiness and joy, the darker-colored threads of trial and tragedy are woven deeply into the fabric of our Father’s plan. These struggles, although difficult, often become our greatest teachers."

We testified that Heavenly Father has a plan for us and trials are part of it. I know that these trials we're facing right now will mold us into a better daughter/son of God... Today, we also had our Mission President's interview and it was nice talking to him again and to Sister Phillips too. 😄 President Phillips gave me a hint that I might train for next transfer (whaaat? huhu not yet ready to do that plus I am still learning this language so plsss not yet haha) cos a lot of sisters are going home on December... At night, did Less Active finding and we accidentally(?) knocked on a member's door. Turned out her husband is a Less Active. We scheduled an appointment with her for next week so we could also meet with her husband and share a message to them.

Oct 17 Wednesday

No Crossroads service for us cos it's public holiday here in Hong Kong. The holiday is called Chùhngyeùhngjit or Double Ninth Festival (idk what it is though lol)... We had a Relief Society "BBQ" activity today...and the sisters sang Happy Birthday song to the October babies 😊 Fun day!

Videos and pictures: Relief Society BBQ Activity!

Oct 18 Thursday

HBD to me! Haha... We had our District Council today and my district surprised me with brownies, ice cream, and root beer. Even though it's a simple celebration, I'm happy that I am here in my mission and doing the Lord's work on my birthday...  In our council today, we had a discussion about Christ's Atonement and shared our testimonies and our reason why we went on a mission... 😊 I know and I testify that the more we understand the Atonement and Christ's sacrifice for us, the more we'll love the Savior, and the more we'll love the people around us. I know that as a missionary, "love" is a motivator that we have to preach the Gospel. I believe that going on a mission is not a sacrifice but an opportunity to serve others. I highly encourage my YSA and youth friends to go on a mission and I promise that the Lord will bless you and your family abundantly.

Oct 19 Friday

Did Zone finding today then English Class... Had post-bday celebration with my apartment-mates cos we were busy yesterday hehe. Also during my personal study today, I came across to this talk by Pres and Sister Nelson: Open the Heavens through Temple and Family History Work and I personally loved how they invited us to consider what kind of sacrifice can we do in order to do more temple work and family history work.

Pictures: Birthday celebration with the apartment-mates

Oct 20 Saturday

"L." family chenged us for dinner and we definitely had a great time with them. So, Sister "L." was born in the Philippines and knows Tagalog too. She moved to Hong Kong when she was 21 and also served as a "stake missionary" back in 1990's. Sister "L." told us her missionary story of handing out 1,500+ Books of Mormon to foreigners (wow!). Great family! We challenged them to give one Book of Mormon to someone this coming week.

Pictures: With the "L." Family and chengout!

Oct 21 Sunday

It's a beautiful Sunday today! A former investigator came to church! She said she used to meet with the missionaries 10 years ago but since she travels a lot and lived in different parts of Asia, she stopped meeting the missionaries... But she said that she permanently resides in Hong Kong now and would love to come and learn more about our church again 😊 We're very hopeful that she will progress 😊 One of my favorite quotes right now is [from Joy D. Jones' "For Him"]:

"If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight. Build anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. Give the world the best you've got anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God.. anyway."

I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a true church and I am grateful that I have the gospel in my life.

Pictures: Saw these cute "small" turtles during finding
and a pic with "MM."

Love y'all! Continue doing good and serving other people. Have a great week! 😊

Updates/Highlights from last week:

Oct 8 Monday

After emailing, we went back [to missionary work] cos today is a normal proselyting day (not P-Day since we have Temple day on Thursday). Me and my companion looked over again the less-active members list and wrote cards for them (uhmm yes people, I tried my best to write those Chinese characters [in the following picture] haha thanks to our Chinese dictionary app lol). We will visit them this week 😊 .. At night, "Mama J." and "Sis. P." chenged the missionaries. The Elders shared the message and used Mormon 9:21 and asked them to pray for missionaries to be able to find prepared people to teach... I also ask for your prayers, my dear friends. Continue praying for the missionaries, that we'll have the success to find those lost sheep and bring them back into His fold.

Oct 9 Tuesday

Yesterday was our District Leader's birthday (Elder Bagley) and so before our District Council today, we surprised him and sang Happy Birthday song 😊 We had a mini-celebration in our "mini" district (mini because there's only 3 companionships haha)... In our District Council, we talked about following the Spirit and about the Christlike attribute Patience. I really liked what our DL said that for him "Patience is not to allow trials influence our testimony." It reminded me of a story in the Book Of Mormon wherein if the Nephites will be caught praying, Amulon and his people will kill them. But despite of their circumstances, they did pour out their hearts to Him, submitted theirselves to the will if the Lord, and their burdens were made light. (Mosiah 24:10-15)... Also during finding today,  an old man asked me why am I here in Hong Kong. I immediately responded "Ngóh séung bōngjoh Hēung Góng ge yàhn hohkjaahp dōdī gwāanyū Yèhsōu Gēidūk" which means I want to help Hong Kong people learn more about Jesus Christ. We then shared our testimony to him. He was very impressed with our intentions, our dedication, and our volunteer service... Even though recently there's not much success in finding, I know that we're somehow able to plant seeds to those people we were able to share our testimonies with. I know that someday they will eventually accept the gospel.

Pictures and Videos: Happy Birthday Elder Bagley! District Council fun!

Oct 10 Wednesday

Did Crossroads and did LA finding today. We went and knocked on their doors but sad to say that they weren't interested anymore to come back to church. 😞 So we just left them a card telling that the whole ward misses them.

Pictures: Found a cute dog on a yacht while proselyting!
And tried this Corn Pie from McDonald's haha!

Oct 11 Thursday

It's our Temple Day today  😊It's always a wonderful feeling to be inside the temple. I was again refreshed spiritually as we attended the session today and was able to receive some personal revelations. 😊 While I was pondering in the Celestial Room, I opened the Book of Mormon and these are the chapters that popped: 2 Nephi 31, D&C 90, and Helaman 5. I know that Heavenly Father answered my prayers and He does know us personally. He loves us so much and He hears and answers our prayers.

Oct 12 Friday

We had a turnover lesson today with our new investigator "MM" (yaaay!). She's a member referral from [the other] Ward and the Elders started teaching her but since she lives in [our boundaries], we will be the ones who will continue teaching her 😊 "MM" is around 50's and is super good! She had read the Book of Mormon twice but said that she didn't fully understand it. So today, we taught her about the Restoration and why do we have the Book of Mormon now. She's very attentive and has lots of questions about the church and so we told her, we will teach her slowly and then she will be able to build and strengthen her own testimony. We're excited for her growth! 😊

Oct 13 to Oct 14

Watched General Conference sessions at church. I love every talk that was given.. but these are my favorites (hehe):

(and the joke from Elder Uchtdorf --- German Shepherd hahaha)...

Pictures and Video: We had our own TV and room for General Conference watching hehe
then Chasiu faahn for lunch

Oct 14 (con't)

Had Family Home Evening at the "Family G."' house. "Sister G." is our Relief Society President 😊 We invited "MM" and the members present helped fellowship ... Great Sunday indeed! 😊

Videos and Picture: Family Home Evening at "Sister G.'s" house.
They sang Happy Birthday too hehe (me and "Sister G." have the same birthday)

Had a great and very spiritual week for me 😊 I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a true church. I know that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins and He and Heavenly Father loves us unconditionally. I know that Prophet Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and he restored His church. I love missionary work and I am super blessed to be part of His marvelous work.

I love you all! Let's try to be more Christlike each and everyday 😊
