BYE WEEK 5!

Lรฉih hรณu!

Pictures: Hammock inside our STL's room lol

Last week passed by so fast! Idk how did it happen lol. And I've been here in the MTC for a month and 3 days now! ๐Ÿ˜Š One more month then I'm off to Hong Kong! Exciting! Soooo, how's everyone doing? ๐Ÿ˜Š .. For me, nothing much happened this past week hahaha :๐Ÿ˜€

Sooo, here are my Updates/Highlights from last week:

Tuesday 22 -

We had a workshop and it's about "Teach Repentance and Baptize Converts" (2 Nephi 31:17-20). So we talked about our central purpose as missionaries is to teach, convert people, and have them accept our invitation to be baptized. And there was a question raised during the workshop, "What does it mean to be a successful missionary?" --- The answer is on D&C 4:2 ("if you put your heart, might, mind, and strength to the work"). The speaker said that "Success is a special gift given from the Lord but you have to work hard. Believe you can baptize. Believe in yourself. Believe that this is possible and don't lower your expectations." .. For the Tuesday Evening Devotional, we (choir) sang "Hope of Israel".. The speakers were Sister and Elder Rasband (from the quorum of the 12). Sister Rasband talked about our Savior's love for us. We should recall how much our Savior has given to us --- that because of Him, we have the chance to be back in our Heavenly Father's presence someday. Elder Rasband talked about Revelation (the speakers who visit MTC really reiterate the importance of President Nelson's talk last General Conference about Personal Revelation). Elder Rasband said that as missionaries, we share a special bond or we have this "revelatory bond". "Your mission assignment is not just an assignment but it was a revelation, an assignment that has to be perfect.". He also said we MUST listen to our current Prophet because he is the one who is living in our days and he has the latest, inspired words, and the Lord's mouthpiece of our days. We are accountable to the one we sustain our arms into.. He also said, "We live in a perilous world nowadays, full of rage and full of calamity, nevertheless we must be optimistic. We must learn to receive revelation. Our Savior will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous days. ๐Ÿ˜Š .. He also shared that the announcement of building a temple in India was revealed to President Nelson JUST the night before the General Conference (he received the revelation when he woke up in the middle of the night. Isn't that amazing? Wowww)... I know that we should be worthy and prepared if Heavenly Father will reveal something to us through the Holy Ghost. We must know what to do and follow this. Personal revelation will come through our simplest request (prayer) to our Heavenly Father. I know that I've been called perfectly by revelation so I will go forward with faith. ๐Ÿ˜Š I chose to serve, I volunteered, I signed the forms, and that means I have to commit myself to exact obedience and work harder each and everyday ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wednesday 23 -

Today while me and my companion were teaching our investigator (our teacher who is just roleplaying), asked us "Why did Nephi kill Laban? Does that mean it's okay to kill?". And we really struggled on answering his question (and I guess growing up in the church, we just have this knowledge and accepted that yes, Nephi killed Laban for a good purpose and he is very obedient). So after teaching him, we went back to our classroom and our teacher explained to us that in today's perspective of course it is really bad to kill, but in Nephi's time (he used as an example about the Law of Moses Exodus 21:13-14) Laban tried to kill them and stole their properties, so Nephi's act to kill him is not premeditated. God truly delivered Laban into his hand to get those brass plates... At night, we taught our 2nd investigator about Joseph Smith and I recited the First Vision (in Cantonese yaaaay) during the lesson..

Pictures: Just an elevator pic (the spotlight's on me lol) (1st photo), after class (2nd photo)

Thursday 24 -

We taught our investigator about Repentance and used an object lesson ($20 bill). The bill represents us and we know our worth but when we sin (crumpled the bill), it doesn't mean that our worth diminished (same with the bill, it's still $20). Soooo, Satan attacks our self-esteem and because of that our self-confidence decreases but that doesn't mean that God doesn't love us anymore --- we still have our worth --- and Repentance is a special gift given to us. ๐Ÿ˜Š At night, we practice teach WOW (Word of Wisdom).

Pictures: Half-way MTC Celebration Package with our cute socks (mine is the pineapple one lol)

Friday 25 -

It's my one month mark today! ๐Ÿ˜ In class, we discussed about the different Parables found in Matthew 24-26. ๐Ÿ˜Š Then at night, the sisters in my zone had a mini celebration (had apple cider, cinnamon bread, some chips) -- thanks for the package Tristan! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Pictures: Filipinos after the gym service.

Saturday 26 -

Shared a message to Cantonese members (during our TRC) about Foreordination. ๐Ÿ˜Š Then in the afternoon, we played "Strike ball' during our gym time. It's my first time to play that game lol fun!!

Pictures: After church red theme, Filipinos in my district sang "Have I done any good" (Tagalog) in our Sacrament meeting (2nd photo), with our District Leader Elder Ray (3rd photo)

Sunday 27 -

Sunday Evening Devotional - speakers were Sister and President William Young (he's a district president here in MTC) and talked about who our Savior really is. We know that He is our older brother and our friend, but He is more than that. As missionaries, we represent the creator of the Earth. He is our Savior.. In that note, how much respect and  do we give Him? :) President Young extended an invitation that we should seek to understand more about Jesus Christ.

Pictures: we had to translate these English sentences to Cantonese (with correct grammar) lol it's haaaard, Mohk Jimuรญh's (2nd photo), and mine (3rd photo)

Monday 28 -

P-Day and Memorial Day today (so the temple is closed). That's my 5th week! See you all next week! Love y'all and take care!

How are y'all? ๐Ÿ˜Š
By the way, thank you for your letters and emails! I appreciate them all. I miss the outside world! LOL. Been here in Provo MTC for almost a month now (crazyyyy!).

Picture: "Thai noodles night" with the sisters in our zone - Sister Delong, Sister Elison, Sister McColgan, Sister Valencia, Sister Komkajone, Me

Well, I had an exciting week! Here's why:

(Updates/Highlights of my week)

Monday 5/14 -

The older district left this morning and off to their respective mission fields. From 40 missionaries in our branch, there's 18 of us left... I miss them all but I know they're doing the Lord's work now and we'll see each other again someday ๐Ÿ˜Š (I just easily get attached to people.. is it a good thing or bad thing? Lol.) At dinner, we had TacoBell haha (simple joys haha but I'm missing Filipino food na!).

Picture: Twinning with my BYUH friend - Sister Enriquez - during our gym time lol

Tuesday 5/15 -

Today at class, our teacher taught us about the "Parable of Temple Sermon" in 3 Nephi 11-18 which relates to the importance of the covenants that we do inside the temple.. ๐Ÿ˜Š For the Tuesday Evening Devotional, the speakers were Sister Duncan and Elder Kevin Duncan (from the Seventy) who both talked about the Book of Mormon. Sister Duncan then shared a story about two ducks (male and a female) who goes to their yard everyday; the female duck has only one leg. Sister Duncan's kids always give these ducks food/crumbs to eat and every time they do, only the female duck eats it and the male duck will just watch her eat (he is just her protector and companion). The moral of the story was the ducks were inspired to go to their yard because they know that the Duncan's will feed them. Similarly to missionary work, God prepared for me the people that I'll be teaching and I know that He'll help me find those people. "Finding by the Spirit is as important as teaching by the Spirit." .. Elder Duncan then compared our testimonies to volcanoes ---Some are perfect outside but dormant inside --- weak/less testimony, while others do not have a perfect shape but are active volcanoes --- strong testimony. He also shared to us the trailer of the Book of Mormon videos (exciting!!! It'll be out on September 21 this year). Can't wait to watch those and use it for investigator lessons! ๐Ÿ˜Š .. He also counseled that we should always read the Book of Mormon because scriptures will always be one of the key components to know more about Christ..In his talk, he also shared a video of "Social Experiment of #BOM #531".  It's an experiment conducted wherein they distributed 531 pages of the book and had the non-Mormons read just a page. Their comments after reading a page were like: "Where's the next page? I want to know more!" or "I think and I totally agree about this book! I think I am a secret Mormon" or "I know that this is true and I want to more about God".. This shows that the voice of the Lord speaks to all and imagine that if a single page of the Book of Mormon can give/have an effect to someone's life, what more if he/she will be able to read the entire book? ๐Ÿ˜Š .. I know that the Book of Mormon is a powerful book and it will be one of the greatest tool of conversion.

Picture: Hosting new missionaries!

Wednesday 5/16 -

Today, we had the chance to HOST the new missionaries! ๐Ÿ˜Š yaaaay! We helped them with checking-in, dropped them to their residence, and to their classroom. It was a fun experience even though I have to carry their heavy luggage from the underground garage to the stairs to the building lol. ๐Ÿ˜Š .. Today we taught our investigator about prayer and the importance of it. Me and my companion planned on teaching him about the Book of Mormon but we had the impression that we should change our lesson plan and teach him about prayer instead.. I know that it's good to have lesson plans set but when the Spirit prompts, you have to listen to the Spirit ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thursday 5/17 -

So last Tuesday, we sang "Let Us All Press On" for the choir and today, we (I and some other "chosen" missionaries) were called to sing and pre-film a video for the 40th year commemoration of the Priesthood given to all worthy men --- Click here for link. Hopefully my face won't be cut out haha. They'll show the video on June 1st. .. Taught [our investigator] about the Book of Mormon and he committed to read the first few chapters of the book.  In class, we taked about the chiasma in Alma 36. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Picture: This is when we did the "Pre-film video" for the 40th yr Commemoration of Priesthood.

Friday 5/18 -

Our teacher told us (me and my companion) that we will have a General Authority sit-in in our class today but he didn't show up. Hahaha. He said this General Authority knows Cantonese and since it's only me and my companion who are Cantonese speaking missionaries in the entire Provo MTC, he wants to meet us. I wonder who it is, hmmmm. Taught [our investigator] about the Plan of Salvation and he had tonsss of questions! (but it's good! That means he's curious and wants to know more about it).

Picture: Temple day May 21

Saturday 5/19 -

TRC day today (shared a lesson/message to Cantonese speaking members). Today, me and my companion shared about Christ's Atonement (What is it? Why do we need it and How did it blessed our lives?). It's always an interesting discussion when we teach and ask the members to share their personal experiences). I feel like it's really easier to teach members than teach investigators hehe.

Picture: Temple day May 21(pt 2)

Sunday 5/20 -

Sundays are always a busy day! Back to back meetings, Zone Conference, Choir practice, and Devotional... For the devotional, Sister Martino and President Martino shared a very powerful experience. They talked about the impact of the two missionaries (who taught them) in their lives.. After devotional, we watched Elder Holland's talk entitled "Open Your Mouth". He said: "You must deliver your own conviction and there has to be at least one convert on your mission and that is you... An obedient missionary always has the Spirit of the Lord with him/her... When a man works by faith, he works by words."

Monday 5/21 -

P-day and temple day! ๐Ÿ˜Š

That's my 4th week! :) See y'all next week and have a great week everyone!

Leih hou muihgo yahn! (Hello everyone!)

It's me again, Au Jimuih. Haha. How was your week? Thanks for your emails! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well, I would like to greet all the mothers (who are here on my email list) a belated HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! ๐Ÿ˜Š Thanks for being an awesome mom! Watch this:

I had a stressful week but everything went well ๐Ÿ˜Š Okaaaay, soooo..

My Weekly Updates/Highlights (or what I learned):

Picture: 5 min break means selfie time (2nd photo)

Monday 5/7 -

Taught our investigator and used our creativity skills. So here in MTC, there are lots of pictures/murals and we took that opportunity to introduce the stories from the Book of Mormon and the Bible. ๐Ÿ˜Š We still suck at the language but our teacher said "Just be bold and be determined. You two (me and my companion) are special because you are chosen to speak and learn Cantonese".

Pictures: With Brother Isaac Smith. (His last day was last Saturday. He was offered a new job in Salt Lake. I'll miss him! He's a great teacher and a friend) (1st photo), Left to Right: Brother Isaac Smith (our teacher), Elder Young, Sister Hadley (sub teacher), Sister Lim, Sister Caunca, Sister McColgan, Me (2nd photo)

Tuesday 5/8 -

Great day! In class, we learned about "How to begin teaching" in PMG pp 176-177 and it is really helpful! ๐Ÿ˜Š And our teacher did a great job again in teaching us a parable - Parable of the Blind Man (in John 9). So, what's the difference between testimony and conversion? --- "Testimony is not enough because when trials come, that's when conversion starts." Then in the Evening Devotional, the speaker was Elder Neil L. Andersen! ๐Ÿ˜Š He talked about "How to find people". He connected his talk to President Nelson's talk (Personal Revelation) last April General Conference.. I sung with the choir and he shook my hand ๐Ÿ˜€ Yaaay haha (and I didn't wash my hand for the entire week --- just kidding! lol).

Pictures: Me, Sister Lim, Sister Valencia, Sister Caunca...sooo windy! (1st/2nd photo), Filipinos (3rd photo)

Wednesday 5/9 -

For my personal study, I studied "The Role of the Holy Ghost".. The Holy Ghost is different from the influence of the Holy Ghost. Before baptism, we feel the influence of the Holy Ghost and through that, we receive testimony. Now that we have the gift, we have the right to the constant companionship if we keep the commandments. ๐Ÿ˜Š In class, we talked more about Gift of Tongues.. Our teacher said, "Make mistakes as much as you can but keep moving and keep growing."

Pictures: During Mother's Day call ๐Ÿ˜Š We look like Call center agents here lol. "Hi! This is Sister Apao. How may I help you?" (1st photo), My pร hngyรกuh (friend) - Sister Lim (serving in HK mission too) (2nd photo)

Thursday 5/10 -

Had class with [a] sub teacher and she's amazing! ๐Ÿ˜Š She said that when we teach, we should think what do we want our investigators to FEEL, what do we want them to LEARN/KNOW, and what do we want him/her to DO/APPLY after.

Pictures: Me, Sister Komkajone, Sister McColgan, Sister Weitzel, Sister Delong, Sister Elison, Sister Demayola, Sister Valencia, Sister Lim, Sister Caunca

Friday 5/11 -

Rainy day todaaaay.. I can finally recite "The First Vision" in Cantonese lol haha sooo happy! ๐Ÿ˜€ ... "Missionary is a title but being a leader, you get people." - [One of our] teacher[s]... For the evening class, we watched this video called "Mountains to Climb" (video below) and talked about "Why is it important that we protect and help others protect their particle of faith?".

Saturday 5/12 -

Cold and rainy day.. Today, we had our first TRC (this is when we teach active members who speak Cantonese (one native from Hong Kong and one served his mission [there]). It was a nice experience! Felt like it's easier to teach members than investigators cos we asked them to share their personal experiences as well. Oh btw, we shared a message about "Personal Revelation". We also shared this scripture verse Jacob 4:6-7... In the evening, I had the opportunity to call home and talk to my mom! (for mother's day). Great day!

Sunday 5/13 -

A lot happened today! In sacrament meeting, the speakers spoke about Repentance.. I really liked what the Elder in my branch shared "Repentance is not a punishment but a great privilege/opportunity and a gift given to us." .. District Meeting lesson was about "Charity and Love" and these are some of the scripture verses that we read/discussed:

Read these verses if you have time and write in your journal What is Charity & Love, What Christ did for you, and How will you apply this attribute ๐Ÿ˜Š Sunday Evening Devotional talk was given by Sister and Brother Swensen (Executive Secretary of Provo MTC) and talked about EXACT OBEDIENCE. According to Brother Swensen, Obedience brings protection and direction. He shared four observations:
  1. God expects us to be in the path of our duty.
  2. Direction often comes to us as thoughts we don't think of as God's revelation.
  3. When recognizable revelation does come, act decisively.
  4. If we respond to direction, God will give us more.

Pictures: My zone (1st photo) and the Sister in the zone (2nd photo)

Monday 5/14 -

P-Day and temple day! Some of the missionaries in our zone already left this morning and they're off to their field. Missing them already! ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

That's my 3rd week! See you all next week! Love y'all and take care! ๐Ÿ˜Š Dojeh lei!

Week 2 done!

Leih hou muihgo yahn! (Hello everyone!)

Leih gamyaht hou ma? (How are you today?)

Pictures: Springtime!

Can't believe I've been here for two weeks now! And almost on my third week (wow, time flies sooo fast!). Anyways, thank you for your emails! ๐Ÿ˜Š I enjoyed reading all of those and hopefully you're enjoying my updates as well lol haha.

My Weekly Updates/Highlights (or what I learned):

Pictures: Matthew 28:19

Tuesday 5/1 -

We taught our investigator about God's love and how to pray and he did commit to try and pray. I think it was a great lesson even though there were language barriers (because I'm still not good with Cantonese lol) but I felt the Spirit during the time that we were teaching him. ๐Ÿ˜Š Ohhhh, and also this day, my mission (China HK mission) has been approved to use smartphones/ipads now lol so I got my iPad today! It's very useful because I can download Cantonese dictionary and some apps that can help me improve my mission language... In the evening, we had a devotional and Sister Jean Bingham (the General Relief Society President) was the speaker. I learned that joy and satisfaction comes through selfless service ๐Ÿ˜Š And we (the missionaries) are here because we are the servants of the Lord and we have to persevere. We surely will have challenges but we will surely overcome this if:
  1. We have Faith
  2. Understanding that "This Life is a Test", and
  3. Understanding that "Mortal life is not easy but it is definitely worth it".

Picture: My district in the MTC

Wednesday 5/2 -

Today was meh ๐Ÿ˜ž It was a gloomy and rainy day. Me and my companion revised our lesson plan (for our investigator) three times. We just don't know what to teach him after the lesson that we had yesterday. We felt like we're doing a "complicated" lesson plan so we did a "simpler" lesson plan... Also, our MTC teacher asked us and evaluated us on how our lesson went yesterday. I started to feel that I am inadequate, weak, and disappointed with myself because I can't express myself really well in Cantonese ๐Ÿ˜• but in our evening class, we talked about "Gift of Tongues" and I was comforted. My teacher taught us that in order to receive it, we must: * Believe, Be Worthy, Seek it, Work Hard, and Love the People that you're teaching.

Picture: Filipinos! Except for that one guy

Thursday 5/3 -

Great day and it was a sunny day too! ๐Ÿ˜Š We had a workshop today and talked about how to find those people whom the Lord has prepared... We should open our mouths, do not be shy, and talk with anyone (even when in public transportation hehe)... I learned that when we do something, always ask ourselves "Why am I doing this and How will it help me or the people I teach?"

Picture: The Sisters in our Zone

Friday 5/4 -

We found out today that our investigator (the one that we're teaching) is actually a Returned Missionary (served in HK mission) and is just doing a role play! Mindblown ๐Ÿ˜‘ lol haha and he is our teacher now! And HE IS REALLY GOOD! I think the highlight of my day was when he taught us the Plan of Salvation through "Luke 10:25-37" - Parable of Good Samaritan". Go read it line by line and you'll be amazed too that it actually talks about Plan of Salvation. Wow!

Pictures: My roomies! (1st pic). Cookies! (2nd/3rd pic)

Saturday 5/5 -

Me and my companion prepared a lesson for our Relief Society class tomorrow and she was so funny hahaha I think I am adapting her British accent now lol and some of her British words haha. .. Oh, and during class our teacher said that we'll have a new investigator to teach next week. Exciting!

Sunday 5/6 -

It's a beautiful Sabbath Day today! It's my first Fast and Testimony Sunday here. Went to church and had a great time. We also taught the RS Lesson today which is about Keeping the Sabbath Day holy ๐Ÿ˜Š ... At noon, we had a Mission Conference and the Provo MTC leaders (MTC Pres, counselors, and their wives) were the speakers. They talked about the "Doctrine of Christ" = Missionary Purpose. Missionaries do not preach and teach in order to increase the membership of the Church but to help other people to come back to our Heavenly Father's presence.. Sometimes when we are lost, disappointed, confused, and sad, the Lord will remind us "Are you still with me my child? Stay close and let's try again (repentance). Satan knows our names but he calls us in our sins; Christ knows our sins but He calls us by name. ๐Ÿ˜Š ..President Martino shared a wonderful talk about "Enduring to the End". He also shared his "Abrahamic experience" --- where his faith was tried when his son died (due to leptospirosis).. Heavenly Father gave us the instructions/ways on how we can go back in His presence someday and through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, it is possible. It is totally up to us if we will do our part. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Picture: Cantonese Sisters, Sister Caunca (Yellow skirt) and Sister Lim (Pink shirt) who will leave for HK soon, leaving me and my companion to be the only Cantonese Sisters until new missionaries come in a couple of weeks (1st pic). District Photo on a beautiful day in Provo (2nd pic)

Monday 5/7 -

P-day and Temple day! ๐Ÿ˜Š

That's my 2nd week! ๐Ÿ˜Š See ya'll next week and Have a great week everyone!
