WEEK 14

Leih hou! 😄

Picture: Apparently this is a gambling house. haha!

First off, I've been here in Hong Kong for a month now! Time really flies soooo fast! And I'm excited for the upcoming transfer cos my MTC friends will be here soon! (but obviously I'll still be in [here in my first area] cos I'm still in training lol)... But yeah, [my] ward is good! 😁 The members are nice... So, how's everyone doing so far? 😊

Updates/Highlights from last week:

July 23rd Monday -

Videos: Hiking on Monkey Mountain! You'll see why it's called that...and it was raining!

Pictures: Monkey Mountain with the Sisters!

After emailing, we went hiking! We hiked Monkey Mountain (and saw monkeys lol). It's a fun hike! It was kinda raining so it was a lil muddy and moisty (?). We only saw like 5 monkeys total hahaha... In the evening, I had my first interview with the new mission president, President Phillips 😊 I was definitely reminded of my missionary purpose that night. He's great! He said he's still adjusting (cos they also came here in Hong Kong almost the same time as me) and so he totally understands my situation cos we're in the same boat 😊 I was definitely comforted by his counsels. Scripture verse of the day: Alma 11:40

Pictures: More of the Monkey Mountain hike!

July 24th Tuesday -

Had our District Council (formerly called district meeting) in pure Cantonese! Hahaha. Cos my district kinda made a goal that we should try to SYL (Speak your language - Cantonese) til the end of the transfer... The topic during our council was about Patience and How to be better in finding people to teach (investigators) ---- Stop people, get to know them and bring up the gospel, then share your testimony... After the council, we applied what we learned! Haha it was funny because me and my companion thought of a good way how to stop people. So we tried to tell people "Leih hou! Ngohdeih yihga hohkgan Gwongdungwa, gam ngohdeih seung mahn leih, dim gong light post?" (Hello! We're studying Cantonese now and we want to ask you, how do you say light post in Cantonese?) or "Dim gong traffic cone?"... Then that'll lead to a conversation 😊 Just trying out new ways on how to stop people haha... Also today, we finally did Pak Muhn (knock doors) [at the place we wanted to go to before]!  Remember last time we rode the wrong bus? Haha. Today we had the right bus and was able to do pak muhn!.. It was funny cos the first door that we knocked to, they're members in our ward and we didn't know that they live there haha! So we just practice teach to them then we knocked on their neighbor's door and had an actual lesson with them. 😊 Great experience... At night, me and my apartment-mates celebrated Pioneer Day in our apartment. 😊 Scripture verses of the day: Alma 13:28-29

Picture: Celebrating Pioneer Day

July 25th Wednesday -

Did CrossRoads (volunteer work) today! 😊 We were assigned in the kitchen and did some slicing of veggies, cooking, and dishwashing... In the afternoon, me and my companion visited a member and she chenged (dinner appt) us. We ate dumplings, chicken wings, orange chicken, dragon fruit, and longan [longganisa?]. We then shared Enos 1 and she said she'll participate in our Ward Fasting 😊 Scripture verse of the day: Alma 17:9

Picture: We got chenged / dinner appointment!

July 26th Thursday -

Video: Some people in the park dancing to "shao pingguo"

Pictures: First exchanges with Sis. Low! Here we are at a train station and a view of her area

I can finally say that I'm a missionary now cos I got fonged! Hahahaha.. It's my first time to be fonged lol. So we were supposed to meet a returning member (less-active) and he didnt show up! So fong feigei means you scheduled someone but didnt come/show up. And so we tried calling his phone but his phone was off too hahaha... Had my first exchanges today too! I was in [another area] and my companion was Sister Low (from SLC). Nothing much happened, we just had dance class at night lol. Fun! Scripture verses of the day: Alma 22:16Alma 24:14

July 27th Friday -

Pictures: More of Sis. Low's area!
Did Finding around [the] area 😊 It's good to have a "new" area and do some finding even for few hours... At night, we exchanged back and I was back in [my area]. Scripture verses of the day: Alma 26:11-12, Alma 26:27, Alma 26:30

July 28th Saturday -

Picture: A table I saw in McDonald's
Nothing special today. Did weekly planning and some potential and former calls... So our companionship goal this week is to have English Fast (meaning, no English for a week) haha. Scripture verses of the day: Alma 32:13, 21, 28 I read two talks today: None were with Him by Elder Holland & Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by Elder Kevin Pearson (both in March 2009 General Conference)

July 29th Sunday -

Video/Picture: Our walk back from church.
Goofy companionship! Hear me speak a bit of Cantonese

Church service was good, especially at the last hour. We were combined since it's the 5th Sunday and they just emphasized more about Ministering 😊 ... After church, we went to [visit]...potential/people with interest. He's a retired geography teacher and really smart! We tried to share the Plan of Salvation to him... After that appointment, we went to a member's house and had Family Home Evening 😊 Me and my companion shared a lesson about Enos (again) and we made smores 😊 Scripture verses of the day: Alma 34:8-10, 32-34Alma 37:33-37

That's my week 😊 Have a greet week everyone! Ngoh ngoi leihdeih! (Love y'all)

WEEK 13

Leih hou!

How's everyone doing? 😊 Thank you for your emails and replies 😊 ... Last week was a good week for me because of... Temple Day! 😄

Updates/Highlights from last week:

July 16th Monday -

It's not our P-Day today because we have temple day this week. So after emailing, we went to [another area] and did Finding with my zone 😊 I did it with Sister Rees (she's...one of my STL's). She's really nice! 😊 ... It was a good "finding" experience. We talked to a lot of people and one of them only speaks Mandarin. We had a hard time understanding her but we tried to call our Mandarin Elders and let them talk to her through phone (thanks to technology lol) then we invited her to come to church but she said she's going back to Mainland this week so that's pretty chaahm (sad).
Scripture verses of the day: Mosiah 16:4 and 9Mosiah 18:8-10

July 17th Tuesday -

I tried some Hong Kong snacks/desserts today! 😄 I had gaakjaibeng (peanut butter waffle), dauhfufa (sweet soft tofu), bolohbaau (pineapple bread), gaimeihbaau (coconut bread), and daan taat (egg tart). It was pretty cheap too! 😊 Hong Kong has really good foods haha... Then we had District Council today (new term for District Meeting). Me and my district meet every week to have this council and we had a training about "Asking Inspired Questions" 😊 ... I know that it is really important to ask inspired questions especially when teaching someone so they can think deeply about the principle that we're trying to teach and relate it to his/her life. Talk that I read today: Lessons from Eve (Oct 1987 General Conference talk by Pres. Nelson)
Scripture verse of the day: Mosiah 24:14

July 18th Wednesday -

I had a stomach ache today (too much eating from yesterday maybe haha) so I wasnt really functional. We were supposed to teach brother L. who was a returning (less-active) member but since I was sick, Sister Kimball (the one who also lives in my apartment) subbed me and went with my companion and taught him. They showed him videos of Jesus Christ performing miracles and also read 2 Nephi 4 together.
Scripture verses of the day: Mosiah 27:25Mosiah 28:3Mosiah 29:20

July 19th Thursday -

Today was a great day because it was our Temple Day! 😊 It's my first time to be inside Hong Kong temple and do a session. They said I'm lucky because it's only my first transfer and I already had temple day haha. Usually temple days are once every 3 months... Anyways, temple days are the best! 😊 I miss my P-Days in Provo cos we can go in the temple every week hehe... After going to the temple, we picked up my Hong Kong ID (yes! I'm legit now lol). We had KBBQ! (which I also missed lol). Then we went to a bargain market (parang baratilyo sa Pilipinas hehe)... Great day! 😊

July 20th Friday -

Did district finding at the Ferry Pier. I was able to talk to a pohpo (grandma) from Taihgwok (Thailand) who moved here in Hong Kong, some Pakistani teenage girls, and [a lady] from Indonesia. We shared our beliefs and they said they respect everyone's beliefs so that's good. They aren't really interested in the gospel but we still invited them to come to church... At night, we were chenged (dinner appointment) [with the brother who] serves as a counselor in our ward [and his wife]. They are so nice! 😊 They have a 2 year old cute baby boy (which made me miss my nephew! 😊).
Scripture verse of the day: Alma 3:26

July 21th Saturday -

Visited W. (returning / less active member). We also met his mom (who speaks another dialect) and his sister-in-law. We taught him Restoration and reviewed it with him. He kinda forgot some of the parts esp. Joseph Smith and his experience so we answered his questions about it and I totally felt the Spirit at that time... After our visit, we were supposed to go...do Pak Muhn (knock doors and share the gospel) but we rode the wrong bus hahaha so me and my companion ended up going home lol funny experience... Did our Weekly Planning at night.
Scripture verses of the day: Alma 5:14Alma 5:26
Talks that I read today: Until Seventy Times Seven (Elder Lynn Robbins) and The Prophet of God (Elder Neil Andersen)Both April 2018 General Conference talks

July 22th Sunday -

Had a great sacrament meeting! 😊 Our investigators weren't there though cos they went to Mainland but it's okay, we'll see them this week. In sacrament, one of the speakers talked about "How can you always remember the Lord?" and she shared a wonderful story/experience. I know that by keeping our covenants, partaking of the sacrament every week, and by being grateful everyday, we can always remember the Lord 😊 Also, it helps me to hum my favorite hymn everytime I feel down or sad. 😊 ... Also, we had a Ward Fasting this coming August and we're really excited about it. We asked the members to think of a name/person that they want to fast for and pray for... I know that through fasting and prayer, we can help other people with whatever they're struggling and they'll feel peace, comfort, and God's love for them.
Scripture verses of the day: Alma 7:11-13, 7:20, 7:23-24

That's my week 😊 Have a greet week everyone! Ngoh ngoi leihdeih! (Love y'all)

Leih hou!

Last week passed by so fast! Also, it was raining these past few days here in Hong Kong... So, how's everyone? 😊 Hopefully you had a good week. My week was okay. Still adjusting with missionary life and of course the language. My trainer is kinda homesick (she's going home in 2 months) and it's not helping me 😐

Anyways, here's my [previous] week. Nothing much happened though...

July 9 Monday -

Had lunch with a returning (less-active) member. (The new PMG was out and some of the terms were changed). Instead of calling them "less-active", it's actually "returning member" now. 😊 Anyways, the lunch was my first yamchah (dimsum, dumplings, etc. fancy resto lol) here in Hong Kong.. Then in the evening, we had another ChengOut (meaning a lunch/dinner appointment...two in a day lol) Too much food for today lol. 😄 We shared a message about Plan of Salvation.
Scripture of the day: 2 Nephi 25:23

July 10 Tuesday -

Today was not so good day for me 😟 I started to feel inadequate and really struggling with the language. 😔 (Why is Cantonese so hard? Haha).. But then after saying a long prayer, I was comforted... At night, we visited...a returning member [who is] Filipino. We shared a message about God's love and How Heavenly Father is mindful of us. He know our strengths and our weaknesses. We shared John 3:16 and 2 Nephi 26:33 to her.

July 11 Wednesday -

For my Personal Study today, I read "Some things every missionary should know" by Elder Boyd K. Packer... Did CrossRoads (service) again. 😊 We were assigned in the clothing section and folded some pants and put those in the boxes. It's fun!.. They were playing songs of Bruno Mars, JB, Charlie Puth etc. and it's hard to resist not to sing along hahaha... Had another ChengOut with a member. 😁
Scripture of the day: Jacob 4:10-11

July 12 Thursday -

Taught a lesson today to "G". She's a person that we teach (investigator) who said she needs more time before her baptism --- January 25, 2019... We shared about Commitment and Covenant (Baptism - Covenant Path) and the talk of Pres. Nelson entitled "As We Go Forward Together"... At night, we visited a returning member, "W". He hasn't been going to church for the last 2 years but we were able to find the contact through our area book planner. We called him and shared a lesson about the importance of partaking the Sacrament (2 Nephi 18). He also Chenged us out. 😁
Scripture for today: Jacob 5

July 13 Friday -

Had Zone Conference today with President and Sister Phillips[the new Mission President and his wife]! It's my first zone conference haha... We talked about Faith - what, who should we have faith into, and some scripture verses/examples... Faith needs to be placed to the right person. If we have faith in Jesus Christ, the result will be salvation... Some of the scripture verses shared: 1 Corinthians 6:14Moses 1Luke 1Moroni 7:31-33... Things will happen in His time and Heavenly Father knows what He's doing 😊 ... Had English class at night and the assigned missionaries chose the topic Monsters and Superstition beliefs haha --- cos it's friday the 13th! lol. Fun class.. There were 3 new people who showed up to the class, hopefully they'll come on Sunday.
Scripture of the day: 1 Nephi 1:20 --- If you have chosen Him, you are His chosen 😀
P.S Saw my MTC companion today - Sister McColgan! And I'm sooo happy. I missed her and our fun times together 😊

July 14 Saturday -

It was raining hard today!... Nothing much happened actually. We did our weekly planning and it took us 3 hours hahaha (when I was in MTC, I didn't think that weekly planning will take this long lol).. Did Finding in the afternoon.. Downloaded some Cantonese videos in LDS app haha.

July 15 Sunday -

Sacrament meeting was good... 😊 and one of the lady who went to the English Class last Friday was there today! Also "W" came! 😊 Great Sunday indeed... They said they had a great time and felt the Spirit. 😊
Scripture of the day: Mosiah 15:28 - Missionary Work! 😊

PICTURES this week...mostly all food:

S'mores!

Ramen!

Taro Pie!

That's my week. Have a great week everyone! Love y'all! Ga yauh!

Leih hou!

How's everyone? 😊 It's hot here in Hong Kong and sometimes it rains lol.. How was your week? 😊

Updates/Highlights from July 2 - July 9:

July 2 -

I got to see my Filipino friend, Sister Lim! We overlapped in Provo MTC. We ate lunch together and other Sister Missionaries. It was nice to talk in Tagalog again lol.. After lunch, me and my companion went to [get] some groceries (US store and Filipino store) haha.. My first P-Day was kinda boring but I had fun exploring [place] though hahaha... At night, we had Family Home Evening (FHE) with [BYU-Hawaii alumni who are married]. [The husband] served his mission here in Hong Kong. He has a lot of inspirational mission stories! 😊 He shared that one time there's a Chinese man reading a newspaper in the park and they stood beside the man and started to read the Restoration pamphlet hahaha then after reading couple pages, the Chinese man threw his newspaper and said that he wants to know more about the gospel. Sooo cool, right? Haha. He also shared that a Chinese girl saw them before in a dream and so when she saw them (the missionaries), she stopped them and asked to teach her a lesson and then she got baptized!!.. Super cool stories hehe I'm excited to experience some miracles in my mission 😊 .. I also learned a new phrase today: bat ji je, bat jeuih (too bad cant put some tones haha) but the translation of that phrase is If you don't know, there's no sin. Lol.

July 3 -

Pictures: A salted egg...bun? And yummy food!
For our District Meeting, we talked about "Teach when you find, find when you teach" and how should we develop our faith to find people to teach... Finding here in Hong Kong is really hard. Everyone is on their phones and everyone is busy with work/school... but it's okay, it's our challenge as missionaries 😊 It's all about Attitude 😊 At night, we had a dinner appointment with our Bishop's family. We ate soooo much food! 😁 Hou sihk (good food!)
Scripture for today during my Personal Study: 1 Nephi 19:9

July 4 -

4th of July! Hahaha. We did some service today at CrossRoads Foundation 😊 It's a foundation who helps refugees.. Fun! --- Mosiah 2:17

July 5 -

Pictures: Happy Birthday Sister Kimball!
Nothing special today except for "Finding". It's also Sister Kimball's birthday today. She's my apartment-mate 😊
Scripture for the day: 2 Nephi 9:7 and 21-24

July 6 -

We taught a lesson today to a less-active member. He's been a member for a year now but he's not consistent in going to church and he has a problem with Word of Wisdom... So we taught him about Faith and used Ether 12... At night, me and my companion taught the English Class and our theme was Summer 😊 It's fun to teach HK people English haha.

July 7 -

Did records today in our Area Book Planner (it's on our phone now!). We also did some "Potential Investigator" Calls and it was crazy hahaha everytime we tell them that we are missionaries, they'll hung up the phone hahahaha or they'll say that they're busy and don't have time to talk to us. Then we called someone who was actually baptized (member) but we didn't know cos the area book planner was not updated lol. I had a good time in doing the Area book planner and doing the calls 😊

July 8 -

Pictures: Apartment-mates!
Church was great! Speakers shared a message about Atonement and being grateful for all the blessings that we receive each day 😊 A member challenged us that when we do one of our prayers, we just thank Him and not ask for something 😊 She also challenged us to write 5 things that you're grateful for every night before going to sleep 😊
Scripture for today: 2 Nephi 19:6

That's my week. Have a great week everyone! Love y'all!
